45 hrs later - and I have the slide printed. This is just a rough test fitting. I still need to clean it all up and somehow make a mold for it. But, overall, everything fits together nicely. It’s gonna look super nice when it’s all shiny silver with the red & yellow sections. I think I finally got the corkscrew slide part figured out. Yikes - way out of my skill zone - but I think this’ll work. Gonna print a test and then try and figure out how to mold this thing.

More progress on the Captain Crook slide. I have the crook paint master done, got the ladder, ground, landing and awning molds all working, made a jig to bend the railing and got the decals in. My pressure pot is too small to hold some of my molds - like this ground mold for the Captain Crook slide. It finally occurred to me that if I turn my pot sideways, I have so much more room. I made this little holder for it and everything is so much better. I’m not sure why I didn’t think of this a million years ago.

My neighbor was throwing out this really swell and really heavy old filing cabinet that works absolutely perfectly to hold all my molds and decal sheets. It was locked and she didn’t have the key. She said it was her late husband‘s cabinet and she didn’t know what was in it. I managed to drill the lock open, but all I found was a tiny coupon for Hilex bleach.

Years ago I had a fairly decent collection of vintage cereal boxes -around 100 or so. But since then I have, sadly, sold them all here and there to fund projects or pay bills.

I kept 3 from that collection - not necessarily the most valuable, but the 3 I always liked: Lucky Charms, Rice Krinkles and Grins & Smiles & Giggles & Laughs.

There are a few other boxes I never had but always wanted and today I got two of them: an Alpha Bits with the 3 kids and a Fruity Pebbles with the striped background (plus the Dudley FrostyO’s I got a couple months ago).

Now I think the only boxes I want are a Chumley FrostyO’s and a Jets with the Roger Bradfield “Go Cart kids”. Maybe a couple others too. But I don’t need or want nearly as many as I used to have. #vintagecereal #cerealboxes #alphabits #fruitypebbles

I got the Captain Crook scan all digitally cleaned up. That took some time, but I think he’s looking good and usable.

I also started to get the spiral of the slide worked out. I still need to figure out the attachment to the landing up top and slice the slide up into sections and add the final exiting portion of it.

I’m debating what the ground shape should be. I feel like a circle takes up too much space. Maybe an oval? Maybe a more organic shape? I don’t know. Any suggestions? #mcdonaldland #captaincrook #vintageplayground

Another successful scan I did to-day was of the Ronald helium tank topper. I was toying with the idea of making a “working” miniature in the near future. Maybe with a CO2 cartridge?

I took a trip to Minneapolis to-day to scan a Captain Crook head for the slide. It was up on a high pole in a difficult to get to area. I got a Hamburglar Setmakers wall plaque in to-day to restore. It has the original paint on it so I compared it to the paint colors I picked to do my miniatures. I picked these colors a few years ago out of a book of thousands of auto paint swatches - just going off what I thought looked good. But I have to say, I think I did a pretty ok job at it.

The mold for my Hamburglar swing was damaged on this last pull I did.

Since it appears most everyone who wanted one, got one - I will not be redoing the molds for the piece any time soon - if ever. The molds for him are too costly to justify another run.

Therefore, this is the LAST Hamburglar swing to be made. If you were on the fence about this piece, now is the time to act. He is all finished and ready to ship out NOW!

I am currently in the process of restoring 2 Setmaker’s Ronald McDonalds and an Officer Big Mac. One Ronald has NO base and the other’s base is damaged beyond repair. But the base on Officer Big Mac is in pretty good condition with just some minor chips and dings that can easily be repaired.

This got me to thinking: maybe I should make a mold of the Officer Big Mac base and run off some fiberglass castings - to use for the two Rons. Since they used the same base, and all.

But then I also started wondered if there would be a market for base replicas/ replacements? I don’t think anyone is offering these anywhere, and I assume there has to be more Rons, Officer Big Macs and Mayor McCheeses out there sans-base.

These would be perfect replicas with the metal disk/tube inside and the proper holes cut out for whichever character it is needed for.

This would be a huge investment in not only time, but money for me to do this. But if there’s a market for it, I would be happy to fulfill that need. Thoughts?

I know a lot has been said about the exterior of the new McDonald’s and how they’re so cold, industrial and lifeless. But I have never actually been inside of one until the other day. I never go to McDonald’s - but I kinda wanted to get a burger - and I refuse to use the drive thru.

There was literally no one at the register, forcing me to use the kiosk. And even if I wanted to have a human ring me up, there’s no longer a menu board behind them.

And I think my favorite feature was that they painted on some faux electrical boxes to give it even more dystopian look.

They REALLY don’t want people to come inside anymore, do they? #dystopia #fastfood #whatarewedoing
